Letter To My Favourite Character

Dear Katya,
Hello. I am Kavindra. You are my most favourite character in "Clever Katya". This is because you are very smart, polite and humble. There are many people as smart as you. I think bringing back the Czar in a chest is a good idea but it is not good to put your husband into a chest. Thats all I wanted to say to you.

Book Review of The 'Clever Katya'

Name of the book : Clever Katya

Retold by : Julia Donaldson

Illustrated by : Jane Kochnewits

Main Characters: Katya and The Czar

Summary of the story :

There was a girl named Katya who lived with her father, a farmer. One day, the Czar of Russia was riding in his coach and saw a farmer eating some bread. The Czar asked the farmer to give him some bread. He felt so delighted because he has never tasted such good bread. He told him that the wonderful bread was made by his daughter. The farmer told him that Katya was a wonderful girl, pretty, strong, a good farmer, a good singer, a good baker and is the cleverest person in Russia. Next day, the Czar came to the farmer's house with a basket of eggs. He gave the farmer a task to Katya, hatch the eggs into chickens and he said that he return tomorrow.

The next day, he went to the farmer's house and told him to ask his daughter to hatch hard boil eggs into chickens. Katya knew that it was impossible. Then she thought of an idea. The next day, the Czar went to the farmer's house again, he saw a girl singing while throwing boiled beans on the ground. He knew that was Katya so he asked her why she did that. She then explained to the Czar. The Czar had a great laugh. Then, the Czar gave Katya a handful of wool. He asked Katya to make curtains out the handful of wool. Katya thought of an idea. When the Czar came to the farmer's house the next day, Katya gave him a little twig. The Czar was beginning to like Katya. He was confused. Katya then told him that her family was too poor to buy a spinning wheel. She asked the Czar if he could make a spinning wheel out of a twig. The Czar laughed again. Katya laughed too, and she was beginning to like the Czar. He then gave her a cup and asked her to fill all the water frome the sea into the cup. Katya thought of another idea again.

The next day, the Czar went to the farmer's house again. He asked Katya for the cup full with all the water from the sea. Katya didn't fill the cup. The Czar was confused again. Katya then explained that if she filled the cup with all the water from the sea, the water from the rivers will flow and fill the sea up again unless he dam up all the rivers, then only she can fill the cup. The Czar was amazed of her cleverness. Then, he asked Katya to marry him. He made a promise with Katya that when he gets fed-up with her, she can bring something she loved best in the palace. For a year they lived happily. One day, the Czar was in bad mood and asked Katya to go back to her father's house.

Then, he asked Katya to marry him. He made a promise with Katya that when he gets fed-up with her, she can bring something she loved best in the palace. For a year they lived happily. One day, the Czar was in bad mood and asked Katya togo back to her father's house.

The part I like the most in this story is when Katya reminded the Czar about his promise. I like this part because this part makes me laugh and made the Czar realised that he wasn't the cleverest person in Russia.
